Siofra O’Shea To Receive Munster Player Of The Year.

It has just been announced that Kerry Ladies U16 star Siofra O Shea has received the Munster Young Player of The Year from the Ladies Football Association.

The Caherdaniel native starred for the Kerry U16 team on the way to their Munster final championship victory over Tipperary, and she was Kerry’s top performer in the All Ireland semi final victory over Kildare and the subsequent extra time loss to Galway in the All Ireland final.

The award comes on the back of what has been an exceptional few months for the Southern Gaels girl.  Siofra was picked for the Irish basketball team earlier in the summer, and she was rated as one of Ireland’s top performers in the European competition which took place in Montenegro.

Siofra will receive her honour at the All Star banquet on December 1st at the City West Hotel where she will be joined by Aislinn Desmond and Sarah Houlihan who have been nominated for All Star Awards.

Kerry U14 v Dublin U14 All Ireland Semi Final Preview.

kerry jerseyKerry and dublin jerseysDublin LGFA jersey

Dublin await Kerry in the All Ireland U14 semi-final next Sunday in Banagher with a throw in time of 3.15.

Kerry come into the game on the back of a very impressive Munster final victory over Cork in Mallow on May 9th when they defeated Rebels on a 3-5 to 0-7 scoreline. The Kerry victory was all the more noteworthy considering that they had fallen to the Rebels in the round robin part of the competition in Fossa last March. Cork won by 5-3 to 1-8 that day, but Kerry had obviously learned a lot of lessons since that encounter and didn’t make the same mistakes the second time round.

Before Kerry defeated Cork in the Munster Final, they had to play 2 epic battles against Tipperary. Kerry won the first encounter on a 6-3 to 3-11 scoreline, but had to play the premier county for a second time a short time afterwards when Tipperary objected to the result on a technical issue and were granted a replay. The Kingdom youngsters made no mistake the second time round, and defeated their opponents by 8 points on a 7-5 to 3-9 scoreline.

Dublin lifted the Leinster title after a 3-8 to 2-6 win over old rivals Meath in the Leinster final. The Sky Blues were cruising at various stages of that match , but Meath kept plugging away and were unlucky not to come away with something from the encounter. Dublin had qualified for the final after tight victories over Kildare (2-10 to 2-8) and Meath again (4-9 to 4-8) in the round robin phase of the competition, and they will be battle hardened after these encounters. Players that performed well for them in the Leinster campaign include midfielder and captain Erica Fields, Jane McGurrin, Alice Rudden, Grace Smith and Ava Lambe.

Kerry are no slouches when it comes to quality either. Although their game plan is very much team based they still possess outstanding individuals such as their captain Amy Harrington ,Ellie O Connell, Heather McNamara, Munster Final player of the match Fonla Ni Chathasaigh and Melaine Higgins amongst others.

It promises to be a rip roaring battle on Sunday. Kerry and Dublin clashes at every level are generally close affairs, and this one will hardly be any different !

Club Officer Workshop on 15th May.

workshopKerry LGFA in association with the Ladies Gaelic Football Association will host a Club Officer Workshop on the 15th May at Intermediate School Killorglin from 7 to 9 pm.

The workshop will give a comprehensive guide to all club officers on what their role and function should be within their club, and how best to carry out their duties.

Every Kerry LGFA club is requested to send in their respective officers for this very beneficial workshop.

Seamus Mulvihill Takes Charge Of All Ireland Minor Ladies Final.

The honours just keep coming for Kerry’s top ladies referee Seamus Mulvihill. The genial Finuge /St Senans whistleblower has once again been entrusted to take charge of a national fnal – a massive endorsement of his continued excellence and consistency in charge of the biggest games.

Last May Seamus took charge of the National Football League Division 2 final between Cavan and Westmeath, and by all accounts did a fantastic job on the day. So good in fact that Seamus has been asked to take charge of today’s TG4 All Ireland minor final between Cork and Galway – and as they say in Kerry , “no better man for the job”.

Being assigned a game as big as this one doesn’t come about by accident or luck – all of the top referees are continuosly assessed and Seamus is inevitably gaining top marks every time that he steps out on the field. His experience and expert application of the rules are a massive help of course, and Seamus is certain to do a great job once again on the big stage.

All in Kerry Ladies Football would like to send Seamus their best wishes on what is the biggest game of the year for intercounty ladies minor football. We are certain that he will do a fantastic job once again.

The game can be seen live on TG 4 at 5 pm.

Seamus Mulvihill To Ref National League Final On Sunday.

The top refs are needed for the big games, and once again the LGFA have called upon St Senans man Seamus Mulvihill to referee a National Final.
Seamus will take charge of the whistle for the Cavan v Westmeath Lidl National Football league Division 2 final in Parnell Park next Sunday May 7th, and it is a massive and well deserved honour for the genial North Kerry man.
Seamus is no stranger to refereeing national finals as he was in charge of the All Ireland Junior final between Louth and Scotland in 2015 as well as refereeing finals at all levels in Kerry and Munster. He took charge of the 2016 O’Connor Cup final when UCD defeated UL.
It is obvious to see how Seamus has risen to the top in the refereeing game. Good communication skills and a fair but firm application of the rules enable him to stand out amongst his peers. He has huge respect at all levels from the players.
Seamus is at the top of his game when it comes to the men’s side of  things as well, and in 2015 he had the ultimate honour when he was chosen to referee the Kerry County Championship final between South Kerry and Legion, a game which finished in a draw.
The great love of Seamus’ life is his girlfriend Emer who he has been with for 9 years. She is by all accounts a very patient woman.
Seamus is of the opinion the the ladies football rule where you can pick the ball off the ground with your hand should be introduced into the men’s game , and with over 19 years of reffing experience under his belt he is a man that knows what he is talking about.
Sunday is certain to be a big day once more in Seamus’ refereeing career and he wishes to convey his thanks to everyone that has send him good will wishes and messages over the last few days. He is also very grateful to his dedicated umpires who will once again be on hand at next Sunday’s final.
All in Kerry Ladies Football send our best wishes to Seamus and we are certain that he will do a fantastic job as always !
