Fossa and Scartaglin met in the U12 Rose Hotel County League Div 3 Cup Final played in Kilcummin last Friday night. The game started lively but it was Scartagin who started the fastest with a point by Muireann Walsh and a free from Shauna McCarthy. Fossa then settled down with Elizabeth Coffey pointing from a free and a point from play by Ruby Gaffey. A pointed free from Scartaglin’s Muireann Walsh was followed up by a terrific goal taken by Grace O Callaghan in which the ball was superbly sent in from outside from a well executed free. Muireann Walsh pointed another free for Scartaglin. The final scores of the half came from Fossa’s Elizabeth Coffey’s free and Lucy O Sullivan’s point leaving the half time scores Fossa 0-4, Scartaglin 1-4. Fossa’s Elizabeth Coffey started the second half scoring a point; it was Scartaglin who then had a dominant spell with four unanswered points from Elle Mai Walsh (2), Aine Walsh and Edel O Donoghue. Again it was the outstanding Elizabeth Coffey who got Fossa’s sixth and final point of the half, before Scartaglin put their stamp on proceedings with points from Muireann Walsh, Ellie May Walsh, Maggie Riordan and Katie Kerins. Final Score Scartaglin 1-12 Fossa 0-6. The match was not as one sided as the result might suggest, Fossa had several goalmouth scrambles through Leah Griffin, Emily Nelligan, Elizabeth Coffey and Brooke Lynch only for  a mixture of good luck and good concentration by Scartaglin’s defence and goalie Charlie O Keeffe to keep the ball out of the net. Fossa battled all the way to make it a very enjoyable game our goalie Anne O Shaughnessy made superb stops on the night. Both sides had good defenders on show, Scartaglin’s Mollie Mahony, Mikaela Buckley, Kathlyn Griffin, Rebecca Murphy and Laura O Donoghue along with Fossa’s Lily O Shaughessy, Shauna Myers, Clodagh Clancy, Rose Cahillane, Seodhla Colleran and Elizabeth O Shea. Fossa’s Rachel Wallace, Katie O Driscoll, Sarah Coffey and Scartaglin’s Tara Kerin and Katie Kerins put their athleticism on show and there is no doubt this is just the start of a series of contests which will be battled out between the sides in years to come.
