Marina Barry To Receive The Lifetime Commitment to Kerry LGFA award.

With the Kerry Ladies Awards Night just 4 sleeps away (Rose Hotel, Friday 28th October) it’s time to reveal somebody that will be the recipient of a very special award for her massive contribution to Kerry Ladies Football.

Marina Barry of Austin Stacks will receive the Lifetime Commitment to Kerry LGFA award in recognition for her consistent excellence on the football fields of Kerry over many years. Marina’s record makes remarkable reading – 10 All Ireland senior medals and 5 All Stars while in a Kerry jersey speaks volumes for the brilliance that she brought to that great team of the 80’s and early 90’s. Marina won her first All Ireland senior title in 1982 and went on to win 9 on the trot after that. In the Austin Stacks jersey she has won every honour that there is to be won at club level in Kerry. This year was even more special though, as Marina lined out with her daughter Caoimhe in the Kerry Intermediate final, and came away with another county medal after an excellent display in which she scored 4 points.

A legend in her own lifetime, Kerry Ladies Football is proud to be honouring one of the greatest Kerry footballers to ever put on a pair of boots.

Driving winds and rain made for very testing conditions, but the Tralee side showed toughness and resilience to claim victory. Mollie O’Carroll was the hero of the hour when her last minute goal snatched victory from the jaws of defeat to claim a 1 victory for the Rock Street girls. It was O’Carroll’s second goal of the encounter, with the former Kerry All Ireland winning underage star also hitting the net on the stroke of half time to leave Austin Stacks with a slender 1-5 to 0-6 half time lead. Veteran star Marina Barry added another goal midway through the second period, and further points from Megan O’Brien and Ellen O’Connell left the black and amber just 2 behind. O’Carroll then struck in the final minute to break the Burren hearts and leave the Austin Stacks players and supporters in raptures of excitement. Next up for Austin Stacks is a Munster Intermediate semi final against Kinsale of Cork next weekend, with the time and venue tbc. IMG_1954 (800x360)
