Munster Minor Championship Round 4
Kerry 5-13 Limerick 1-01
A convincing win by Kerry on Saturday in ideal conditions in Cordal. Prior to the game a minute silence was held for Mick O’Dwyer of Kerry and TJ Caplis of Tipperary. Prior to the game Kerry had won three out of four games. Limerick had yet to pick up a win in the competition.
Kerry made numerous changes for this game and dominated proceedings early on scoring five unanswered points. Priya O’Donovan getting the first score of the afternoon. The gulf in standards between both sides was evident early on but credit to Limerick they played with plenty of grit and determination. This was rewarded midway through the first half with a point from Cait Murphy. Soon after they scored the first goal of the game courtesy of Olivia McCarthy to leave the bare minimum between the sides. Not many in attendance at Cordal saw this happening and it took Kerry a few minutes to regain composure and control of this tight affair. Indeed Kerry finished the half the strongest. A well worked move saw Lucy O’Connor dispatch expertly to the net. Points from Muireann Teahan and Mary Kate Smith saw Kerry go in at the break with a four-point advantage.
No doubt Kerry regrouped at the interval. The result saw them dominate proceedings as Limerick’s challenge waned. Indeed Limerick would fail to score for the second half as four goals from Kerry put an end to any chances of Limerick had of causing an upset. Three goals in a three minute spell saw Kerry open up a commanding fifteen point lead. It was very much one way traffic for the remainder of the game. Further points from Mary Kate Smith, Saoirse Harkin and Muireann Teahan saw Kerry run out convincing winners ahead of the final round game at home to Cork on the 19th Aoril.
