Kerry v Cork (R1 MLGFA Senior C/ship) Match Report

Kerry had six to spare in the Munster Seniors Ladies 1st round encounter against Cork, played in Macroom last Friday evening.
The visitors conceded 2 goals in the opening 25 mins, but steadied the ship and took the game to Cork in the second half, out gunning the home side and claiming a victory of 6 points.
Kerry found it hard to break Cork down in the opening half of this lively encounter and it was the home side that had a slender 2 point lead at the short whistle, as goals by Ciara O’Sullivan and Hannah Looney gave the home side a two-point lead at half-time 2-4 to 0-8.
Bernie Breen and Laura Rogers pointed as Louise Ni Mhuirceartaigh had 4 and Amanda Brosnan with 2 further points, had all contributed to Kerry’s first half tally of 8 points.

The visitors retired at half time, but came back at the restart and Kerry stood fast and held a tight defence on the forward attacks from Cork and from several attempts going forward, Bernie Breen finished a well-worked ball thru the Cork defence and raised the green flag.
Anna Galvin added the visitors second just entering the fourth quarter as Kerry had the Cork defence under pressure for most of the second half. And Cork were now under pressure for the remainder of the game as further points from Lorraine Scanlon, 3 from Ni Mhuirceartaigh whose tally was 7 on the night, along with efforts from Amanda Brosnan, Bernie Breen, Jane Lynch and Laura Rogers put this game out of the Cork reach and this was an impressive display from the reigning Munster champions.
