Minors defeated by Premier County in first round of Munster Championship

Minor TeamOn Saturday our minor team were defeated by a very strong Tipperary side in Firies GAA. Kerry started brightly enough winning possession from the throw in & attacked the Tipperary defence. But some poor passing lead to breakdown of a few attacks. Kerry were first on the scoreboard with a pointed free from Norma O’Mahony Rathmore in the 2nd minute. The ever busy Andrea Murphy who worked hard all day followed this up 2 minutes later. However from this point forward Tipperary took complete control with Aisling Moloney in midfield leading the charge with her strong running & smart movement of the ball to her inside forwards had them back to level 2points apiece by the 6th minute. Kerry fullback Clodagh Quinlan was sin binned in the 7th minute which the Premier side capitalised on. They hit Kerry for 3 goals in the half, with Kerry unable to secure their own kick outs & against the wind they managed to hit some superb scores. However Kerry kept battling on & were awarded 2 penalties before the half but they were well saved by the keeper. Kerry in the second half tightened up considerably in defence & brought on some fresh legs. They were rewarded with a goal from centre forward Norma Mahoney & additional scores from Aisling O’Connell, Katie O’Mahony & Andrea Murphy. Final Score Kerry 1-07 Tipperary 3-18.

Next fixture will be a tough game away to Cork on April 8th.
